| Bill Cowher Likely to Retire Cowher will make his decision public shortly after Sunday's season ending game for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He's expected to make the announcement within a few days. I know many expect it he will retire and take a step back from the game after being the head coach for Pittsburgh for over a decade. The likely top candidates to replace him may be internal ones in offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and offensive line coach Russ Grimm |

| Re: Bill Cowher Likely to Retire Yep, the papers around here are pretty much reporting it as fact. He feels lowballed by the Steelers offer of $6 million per season for an extension and is getting burned out with the whole coaching thing. He's not going to Bama; he will retire for 1 or 2 years and then cherry pick the best offer available. And as Empire already said, Grimm and Wisenhunt are the top candidates, with Iowa Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz as a possible dark horse.

| Re: Bill Cowher Likely to Retire I think that Cowher will go gently into that dark night. He'll enjoy family life for a couple of years then come back to football in order to get that chin more TV time. I wouldn't expect Rooney to go outside. He has a couple of candidates in house with offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and offensive line coach Russ Grimm. Both have been attractive names mentioned in previous vacancies, so Rooney's desire for team continuity shouldn't be compromised. If Whisenhunt is the guy, I think Grimm will take over as offensive coordinator for the short future. If Grimm is the guy, I think Whisenhunt may feel slighted and decide to take his services elsewhere. |
