Bashing Ben

no, he didnt have a stellar game

no, he didnt win

no, he didnt look like he was headed to a repeat

but does he deserve all the bashing i have heard on talk radio today ?

NO

let's keep in mind, this is his 1st real game since the Super Bowl

since that game he had his motorcycle accident and his appendix removed

so how about we cut him a little slack ?

as for the game, keep in mind he wasnt out there alone

the Steelers have always been a smash-mouth style, run the ball, control the line type of team

and, this game, they managed to rush for a PATHETIC 26 yards

thats right.................26 yards

so, before you jump all over Ben, take a look at his supporting cast

Ben < Daunte?

Come on now my Daunte bashing buddy...Big Ben the Motorcycle Man can take it...comes with the territory.

Now how come you don't use the same logic with Daunte...who was sack 7 times last game?...though you threw him a bone by saying that its Saban at the helm...

Never been impressed with Ben...he is a game manager more than a great passer...but it works for him...

Re: Bashing Ben

Roethlisberger was a great fit for the Steelers and it will remain to be seen if he can improve on his tremendous season last year. He didn't get off to a good start but cut the guy a break after all he's been through.

Let's re-start this discussion in late November, December.

Now, now Empire...we have trashed Daunte, have endlessly talked about poor Eli's complete percentage, have pleaded with Vick to become a running back...why, oh why, should we hold Ben "I am Evil Knievel" Roethlisberger above them all?...

Re: Bashing Ben

Well, in his defense, as Simon mentioned, he's gone through a (probably) career threatening motor-cycle crash and had an apendectomy (sp?) done a week or so ago.

If he can't catch a break after one bad game...boy we are some tough critics lol.

Re: Bashing Ben

Will he deserve all the bashing he's going to get on talk radio tomorrow after going 18-of-39 for 209 yards and three interceptions against Cincy? YES! I have all the sympathy in the world for the guy if he's hurt and he can't go. But if that's the case, then step aside and let Charlie Batch lead the team until you're healed, Ben, because you sure ain't getting the job done.

I'd take Eli over this guy in a heart beat...he's okay...but he won't win without a darn strong team around him...and how many bad games in a row for Big Ben?

Amazingly enough I sell a lot of Big Ben cards on e-Bay.

Re: Bashing Ben

Hey guys ... I love the steelers and probably will die that way but I notice a few things about Big Ben , He a strong big guy that can take a few good shots at him , Also can fight through them to but one thing I notice about him , He doesn't seem to have the mentality of the game as of yet, I can see him making alot of stupid plays , Sure he a rookie and with time I hope he becomes a more smarter player , He got all the tools to become a great quaterback but its still to early to tell , GO STEELERS

Re: Bashing Ben

People seem to be twisting and turning on Big Ben already once he goes through the tough times. People wanted to annoint him the next Dan Marino or John Elway type of guy after his tremendous rookie season. What they didn't account for was how well the entire Steelers team was and how tailored the offense was for a QB who just didn't make mistakes. Sure Roethlisberger made some great plays but his usual role in the offense was simply not to make dumb plays.

If he is getting killed on Pittsburgh Sports Talk Radio, I say huh? The kid helped lead the team to a Super Bowl...he's allowed to have a subpar season.

Gotta agree...never liked calling a "game manager" a bonafide star QB...

I wouldn't. Did you see Eli the other night? For starters, he only looks at Burress. He never even looked in the direction of Tim Carter and he barely looked at Shockey at all...That's to start...He' also still inaccurate as hell.

True -Rothlisberger's had a bad year but he'll bounce back next year from his motorcycle accident and appendecitis.

I agree. I think they just brought him back too early. He should have taken more time off this season.

Re: Bashing Ben

Comparing Ben to Eli:

ELi has a Passer Rating of 81.1 he finished the regular season last year at 75.9

Ben has a Passer Rating of 78.1 he finished the regular season last year at 98.6

One is improving the other is not. I'd have to go with the one improving.

I've never like Big Ben, never will, he could win a 100 Super Bowls and it wouldn't alter my opinion. I'd like to rip his right arm off and beat Tom Brady in the face with it.

You make it sound like the guy been around a long time , The guy is just a big kid still learning the game , If within time he becomes a smarter QB ? I can see him being a good QB , He sure has all the tools to be one , Though only time will tell
