Here we go again!

The Bucs offered Jack Wilson and Freddy Sanchez contract extensions this past week.
The new deals were for LESS MONEY than they currently make.
Needless to say, both guys turned them down. It's sounding like both are on their way out at season's end.
We Pirates fans will never have a team worth cheering for again.

Re: Here we go again!

It's tough for a team like the Pirates in a league like this. Very tough. One of the biggest problems with the MLB is how unfair it is for small market teams to compete. It seems every year it is the same 4 or 5 teams making a run for the World Series.

However once in a while, there is a bright spot in this terrible system. Take the Ryas for example, they give some fans hope and maybe make Bud feel like some of his luxury tax plans are working. So it may take time, but maybe one year the Pirates will surprise everyone and find just the right strategy to win. Despite their payroll. Don't give up hope yet!

16, actually. This will be our professional sports record 17th straight losing season. The bottom line is we need a Moneyball guy running the show--someone who can make the team competitive without breaking the bank, like the A's and Twins have been over the years. Part of the problem has been poor drafting. Now, though, we've got some talent in the minors, and it looks like things might be starting to come together just a little bit, and then what? The team deals off Morgan and McClouth and then looks to be losing Sanchez and Wilson after the season. Frustrating to no end.

oh yeah if you have a losing season this year you break the record of most consecutive losing seasons held by the ... Phillies sigh that makes you remember thats 2 world series in over a century along with a lot of losing yet you still don't have 10,000 losses

Thats what I'm thinking. Once in a while a GM finds that one strategy with getting just the right players for the team without spending too much money.

Its really sad for pirate fans, they keep peddling off all their good talent and seem to not care to win..

Exactly. You can't rebuild forever can you? They have to at least attempt to go for it one year.

Not when you have a stingy owner, and won't pay for players... They always develope young good players, then ship 'em off in their prime... Jason Bay being the best recent example.

Re: Here we go again!

That's it. I'm done. I can't take it anymore.

Quote:
Shortstop Jack Wilson, one of the staples of this season's trade market, was dealt by the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday as part of a seven-player deal. Going to the Mariners along with Wilson is right-hander Ian Snell.

The rebuilding Bucs received a five-player package from Seattle, headlined by top catching/first-base prospect Jeff Clement. Also going to Pittsburgh are shortstop Ronny Cedeno and a trio of right-handed pitchers -- Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin and Nathan Adcock.
And if any of those players are any good, I'm sure they'll wind up being dealt before too long, for more minor leaguers.

It's just so utterly draining, trying to root for a team that has no interest in winning.

Yeah, Lefty, the Pirates are my favorite team too, though I ask myself why regularly! There goes Wilson and my second fav pitcher on the team... they're not even going to be fun to play with on MLB the Show anymore

Yeah... and now Freddy Sanchez, John Grabow and Tom Gorzelanny are gone as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see Duke and/or Capps go before the end of the day today, either.

Look at this depth chart. I don't even know half these guys!
Depth Chart | pirates.com: Team

I sure hope all this minor league talent works out, but then, if they're any good Pittsburgh will probably trade them in a year or two anyway!
