Pittsburgh Pirates trade rumors

The Pittsburgh Pirates are about to have a big ol' fire sale, and some of the names I'm hearing include Burnitz, Casey, Craig Wilson, Joe Randa, Oliver Perez. I'd like to see them dump Burnitz and Randa, the former being a bum and the latter being extraneous these days. Casey's a money thing - he's our highest paid player, but it'd still be nice to see him stick around. Wilson is a free agent at the end of the year and it looks like they just want to get something out of him. Perez, I don't know the story on.

Sometimes I hate being a Pirates fan.

No way... gotta keep Freddy Sanchez, too. That kid's the real deal.

Maybe Duke and Snell too, but we've definitely got to upgrade the pitching.

Re: Pirates fire sale coming

Two more names have surfaced.

First, in today's Pittsburgh Tribune Review: "Kip Wells, coming off his best start of the season Monday, is an obvious trade candidate, seeing as his contract expires after the season, and the Pirates have shown no inclination to re-sign him."

In addition, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Bob Smizik is reporting the following: "Jack Wilson, once considered a key building block of any future Pirates success, is available. No one should be surprised if there aren't a lot of buyers."

Wells, I can see. I'd hate to lose Jack, though. Still have high hopes for him.

Re: Pirates fire sale coming

New Pirates trade rumors: Mike Gonzalez may be on his way out, and Randa could well be heading back to San Diego. Burnitz, as always, is on the block but it now looks like the Bucs front office is accepting the fact that they'll need to exercise the $700,000 buyout clause in his contract at season's end. There's just no takers for the bum.
