Van Benschoten's future

Good article in the paper today about former first-round draft pick Jon Van Benschoten. In three innings this spring, he's given up four runs on five hits. This after going 0-7 with a 10.15 ERA in 11 games last season with the Bucs. The word is he's either going back to the minors, or he's going to be shipped off, or possibly he could start working at first base again, like he did in college. What do you think the Pirates should do with him?

I had hopes for him, but it looks like he is going to end up a bust. They should cut their losses now and try to trade him away. Playing 1B will not help him too much with the Pirates. They already have LaRoche and Steven Pearce ready for the position.

Yeah, sadly, I agree. No sense wasting time and effort trying to cultivate something that just isn't there.
