Re: PittsburghPirates trade rumors I think everybody knows that Cota is going to be leaving soon. There is no way that the Bucs are gonna carry three catchers for much longer. As far as Perez is concerned, if they are going to deal him they better get a starter for him that is proven. Like you said, you cant just give him away...

Re: PittsburghPirates trade rumors In the Mets forum, I heard some talk about the Mets looking into Oliver Perez to help their (injured) rotation. My only concern is that Perez has a 1-5 record and an ERA well over seven. I am not sure if he will be able to turn this horrible start around this season, no matter what team he plays for.

Re: PittsburghPirates trade rumors He's a talented pitcher, but he's got some problems. A good pitching coach should be able to help him out, get the mechanics straightened out. A lefty with natural ability is always a hot commodity, too, so there'll be a taker for him, be it the Mets or someone else.

Re: PittsburghPirates trade rumors I dont think the pitching coach is the problem. Eventually he needs to own up to his performance and quit with the excuses. The pitching coach can only do so much, and then it is on the staff. That is not the problem...

(7/23/06) .... With the non-waiver trade deadline approaching and the Pirates sporting the worst record in the National League, rumors have been heating up about who may or may not be on their way out of Pittsburgh. First baseman Sean Casey lost one possible destination when the San Francisco Giants acquired Shea Hillenbrand from the Toronto Blue Jays. The Astros reportedly are interested in reliever Damaso Marte. ... The Pirates are on pace to steal 49 bases, which would be their fewest since 1975, and make just 68 attempts, which would be their fewest since 1994. |

Re: Pittsburgh Pirates trade rumors Here's the latest on these Pirates trade rumors: "Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Sean Casey could still be headed to the Bay Area, this time in a trade with the Oakland Athletics. A source told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Oakland might be the most likely destination for Casey. Pirates general manager David Littlefield expects to make more than one trade before the July 31 deadline for non-waiver deals, with the primary shopping pieces being outfielder Jeromy Burnitz, Casey, reliever Roberto Hernandez, third baseman Joe Randa, starter Kip Wells and outfielder Craig Wilson."

Re: Pittsburgh Pirates trade rumors No, don't misunderstand. We love Casey, and he's been great for us. But we're a terrible team and he's the highest paid player on our roster. It's a cost cutting move, nothing more nothing less. Heck, if he deal him, we technically won't have a 1B on the roster. Craig Wilson has played there. But then, if he's traded...
