| Pirates could deal Bay, Wilson or Xavier? What that internal due diligence probably centered on was restocking the Pirates' minor-league system, which is in great need of a kick-start. That could mean veterans such as Jason Bay and Jack Wilson will be traded this winter. Or maybe Xavier Nady will be dealt. In each case, the Pirates' goal would be to bring back perhaps two well-above-average prospects from another team. -- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pirates GM gets feet wet at parley |

| Re: Pirates could deal Bay, Wilson or Xavier? Wilson wouldn't net a top prospect in return, and a lot of teams will be afraid to touch his salary, so that's out. I think there would be a mutiny in Pittsburgh if Bay got traded, but realistically, he's probably the player with the highest value on the roster, so it does make the most sense to trade him if you're interested in building for the future.

| Re: Pirates could deal Bay, Wilson or Xavier? Yeah, you've got to keep Gorzy. I'm a little tired of so much turnover in the rotation year after year though. I'd love them to get some solid young arms, lock them up and roll with them. And as high as the Bucs have been picking in the draft year after year, I can't believe the farm system even needs restocked. Sounds to me like part of the problem might be poor pre-draft scouting. |
