| Pirates Fire Jim Tracy Breaking news on ESPNews. MLB.com says the Pirates are holding a press conference later this afternoon to make it official. He's only been at the head for two seasons. Why fire him now? |

| Re: Pirates Fire Jim Tracy I was gone all day, and this was headlining my local paper. It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. According to the article I read, this makes Tracy the shortest-tenured non-interim manager for the team since 1973, and apparently he was canned because he was Dave Littlfield's guy and the new front office wants their own guy. Any way you slice it, Tracy deserved at least another season to get things turned around. Disgraceful.

| Re: Pirates Fire Jim Tracy I didn't see the Pirates (so I can't say if they didn't hustle for the guy or if he made bonehead decisions with the pen or strategy, etc.) but this reeks of the new GM wanting to make a decision on who his manager will be. I think it's less about Tracy and more about the GM wanting "his guy" as manager. Of course unless any Pirates GM sign some solid vets to go along with the nice young guys they have, they'll be bound for another 70 win season. |

| Re: Pirates Fire Jim Tracy I know, I guess I just tend to be of ill humor when it comes to the Bucs. I mean, they fired Lloyd prematurely. Now they've fired Tracy prematurely. Finally the front office has changed too, because that bunch of idiots kept making terrible signings and deal and expecting miracles out of the manager. The new GM's from the Indians, so hopefully he'll build a team the same way the Indians did - young players signed long term, given time to succeed. |
