| Re: Pirates @ Dbacks August 7th-August 9th Tom Gorzelanny(9-6) Micah Owings(5-5)Scouting Report: Pirates: Due to a rainout Sunday, Gorzelanny's start has been pushed back to Tuesday, when he will face the D-backs for the second time in his career. The delay now means that Gorzelanny will have had a full two weeks off since his last start, which ended prematurely because of stiffness in Gorzelanny's left shoulder. The young left-hander said that the extra week has his arm feeling fine and that he is concerned that the discomfort is not a result of an injury. Gorzelanny has struggled coming out of the All-Star break, going 0-2 with a 7.04 ERA. D-backs: Owings may have saved his spot in the rotation and avoided a trip to Triple-A Tucson with his performance the last time out. The right-hander, who had been struggling, put together an excellent start against the Padres at PETCO Park. Owings allowed just one run on four hits over six innings in a 9-5 Arizona win. Owings won a spot in the rotation with a strong spring following a 2006 season that saw him go a combined 16-2 at Double-A and Triple-A. The Pirates will begin a six-game West Coast road swing with a series opener against the Diamondbacks at 9:40 p.m. ET on Tuesday out at Chase Field. Pittsburgh will find itself countering a sizzling Arizona team that entered its game on Sunday having won 12 of its last 14 games. The hot streak the D-backs went on to end July and begin August has propelled Arizona to the top of the National League West standings. link
