Can The Pirates Break Through?

I've seen a lot of Pirate baseball over the years and yet these last 13 or so have been so agonizing. I do think that concern more than panic is where I am right now. I know that the expectations are high this year and so the disappointments can be bigger because if that.

The measure of this team will be its ability to break through all of this and it needs to be sooner than later. The way we lost these games can be reversed. We could very easily be 3-1.

We need to be around .500 by the end of April. That isn't going to be easy starting off 0-4.

Here's the rub.

1. Chris Duffy - Big time struggle
Can that be fixed by Nate McClouth or do we
give Duffy more time?

I think that you sit Duffy for a little while.

2. Is Santos going to last?

I think short leash on this guy

3. Vogelsong?

"Realy Short Leash"

Other than that, I see no significant change needed. They just need to play it out.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

Re: Can The Pirates Break Through?

I would give Duffy a bit longer BBB. I think that since he is a new guy you do not want to pull him yet. Do not kill his confidence, that is something he really doesn't need now. He just needs to be patient at the plate, and cut back on the K's...his fielding is excellent.

As far as Santos and Vogelsong go I definitely agree. What are the chances of seeing Burnett sooner rather than later?

Re: Can The Pirates Break Through?

Perez gave up 5 earned runs through 3.1 innings today. In my opinion he has lost all his power, and when he does not have his location he is mediocre at best.

On a good staff he is no better than a #4, or #3 at best...

This is so pathetic. I cannot believe my eyes when I watch these guys play. It is absolutely incredible. Relief pitchers throwing fat pitches on an the 0-2 count. Doumit dropping balls that hit him right in the mitt. Perez walking the whole world.

Castillo and Jack Wilson are the only thing good going on for the Pirates. This is very sad going into the home opener.

The really sad this was, as bad as we played, we actually had a shot to come back there in the 9th. These guys keep battling and battling... just a shame that the pitching has let us down so much. Two more losses and we tie the franchise record, guys, and we've got the Dodgers coming up. If the Bucs can't beat the Brewers and Reds, how the heck are they supposed to beat L.A.?
