Pirates RP Salomon Torres has filed a grievence with the union and demanded a trade, claiming he was "tricked" into taking a lower salary last season and he feels the team is delaying his rehab now because he complained about it.

"I've given everything I have to the team, to the city of Pittsburgh, and I would like nothing more than to be part of a championship there," Torres told Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "But I've had enough. They tricked me into signing that contract, and what they are doing to me now is retaliation because I complained about it."

At issue is GM Dave Littlefield's supposed promise that if Torres came back for less than market value, that the team would invest in one of the pitcher's baseball academies in the Dominican Republic. Torres claims that he tried unsuccessfully to have Littlefield make good on the promise before giving up and renting it to the Texas Rangers instead.

If what he says is true, then I've officially lost what little respect I had for Dave Littlefield as a GM. We need new blood in the front office pronto.

What can come of this grievance? Is he looking for more money? He already rented the facility to the Rangers. I guess that is why players need agents. Boras would have had that agreement in writing before letting Torres sign.

Littlefiels should be run out of town if this is true. Not a good way to do business.

I don't know. Maybe he's looking to become a free agent because the Pirates are in breach of contract. The only problem is, was this "promise" ever officially written into his deal? If not, he really doesn't have a leg to stand on legally. But if this is true... man. I for one will have a real hard time rooting for this franchise if this is how they plan to do business.
