Jason Bay was benched last night, the first time he's been out of the starting lineup all season. Bay's in the middle of a horrific slump. According to the AP, Bay "hitting .314 at the start of June but was down to .266 by Saturday. He has homered only once in 19 games and was 13-for-86 (.151) in his 23 most recent starts." Hopefully he can get this turned around pretty soon here. We can't have our best player going into the tank like this.

Bay's struggles continue. He's hitless in his last 13 at-bats and has yet to get a hit in July. His batting average has fallen by over 50-points in the past month, and he's been benched for two of the last five games. The worst part is, Bay seems to have no clue as to what's wrong.

"We can't really find anything," he told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I've felt good the last couple of days, but I've just been fouling off the pitches I need to hit. And that frustrates you even more... I don't know... Usually when I go bad, I'm kind of flailing and I'm not seeing the ball. But the last few days, I've been seeing the ball."
