Bucs vs. Padres

Okay, after taking 3 of 4 from the Reds, the third-place Pirates host the San Diego Padres for a three-game series starting today. Pittsburgh will send Tom Gorzelanny (5-3, 2.51 ERA) to the mound against David Wells (2-2, 4.85 ERA). San Diego comes in having won three straight, while the Bucs are just 2-5 against the West. Needless to say, I'm a little tentative about this series.

Hey, we can't all buy titles like they do in Boston. Pittsburgh's in third place in the Central. For them, that ain't bad.

Yeeeee-haw! Big win for us and a nice day for Gorzelanny, who lowered his ERA to 2.51 with a 4-1 victory over the Padres. Jason Bay homered, and Xavier Nady, Freddy Sanchez and Adam LaRoche all drove in runs in the win. Torres gets save #12 (so glad I snagged him for my GTG fantasy team) and believe it or not, the Bucs are in SECOND PLACE in the NL Central!

What's with all these Live Chats? I start a Dodgers one, and suddenly it's a trend? We must give credit to Simple Simon.

Xavier Nady was good in New York. Fans loved him, I didn't.

Well, this isn't a live chat, considering it's not a national game. Just one delusional Pirates fan (that's me) trying to keep track of the team's current series.

Simon and I are really the only ones doing the Red Sox game. We get an occasional Sox hater like Marc & Lefty but we just entertain one another during our teams good times. We only get to celebrate every 86 years so let us enjoy our glory days.

Like I said, I would've been there yesterday if it weren't for ESPN blacking out the game. Happens all the time around here.

Re: Bucs vs. Padres

Now, to get this thread back on track...

Well, actually the Bucs lost 9-0 to San Diego yesterday. "Mike Cameron had three hits and three RBIs and Khalil Greene's grand slam in the eighth inning gave San Diego a 7-0 lead," according to the AP, while Chris Duffy had a pair of hits for the Pirates. With losses like that, maybe I want to talk more about the Red Sox after all!

Re: Bucs vs. Padres

Unbelievable. We had a 2-0 lead in the 9th and blew it!

To quote the AP: "The San Diego Padres lost a home run and a nasty argument during a combative 11th inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates. What they didn't lose was a game they appeared to have little chance of winning until the ninth inning... Mike Cameron hit a go-ahead homer in the 11th inning after tying it with a run-scoring double in the ninth, and the Padres overcame a disputed call taking away a home run in a 4-2 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday night."

I swear this team just drives me nuts sometimes. And Chacon pitched so well too.
