Pirate Spring Training

The Pirates are having a nice spring. We are getting a good look at a lot of players and some that I never heard of before are doing well. Second baseman Stansberry has two homers. I knew about Sadler. He is rockin'.
Ray Sadler also has a gun for an arm. Snell pitched well in the loss yesterday. So far so good. 7-2 and things are upbeat. Players in the WBC are yet to return.

Re: Pirate Spring Training

I have not read a whole lot about Stansberry over here in Pittsburgh. Just a bit here and there. But like you said, he is having a great spring. Hopefully he's a keeper!

Re: Pirate Spring Training

Pirates won one today against the Red Sox. The final was 10-7. A lot more offense so far. Casey, Burnitz and Freddy Sanchez delivered key hits today.

Re: Pirate Spring Training

BBB,

I am not so sure that spring training games judge offense that well, but with that being said the Bucs do look good pretty much all around.

We won't be able to really see where they are at compared to last year until the season starts. It's almost here!

WVU.

Spring training is never an indicator of what it will be like in the regular season. Having said that, I do think that it allows you to see the potential make up of your team. Yesterday showed me something about Sean Casey's defense. It also showed me that Freddy Sanchez has continued his clutch hitting from last year.

The Pirates scored 4 runs on Schilling. I'm not sure last years team could have done that.

Re: Pirate Spring Training

Good point. I have heard a lot of good things about Casey's defense. I am very anxious to see if this holds true throughout the regular season.

Re: Pirate Spring Training

The Pirates lost about 25 one run Games. If they win half of those games this year that will make their season.

Re: Pirate Spring Training

The Bucs are up big against the Yankees and the Tigers in two split-squad games. Bucs 9-1 over the Yanks and 7-2 over the Tigers. It's just sprong training but it's good for the new Tracy regime.

Re: Pirate Spring Training

It's good news for sure, and a great start to the season. But I hope at least some of this carries over to the regular season. If it doesn't all of this hard work is going to be wasted.

They need to produce during the regular season, and I think this team can do it.

Re: Pirate Spring Training

WVU,

I think the Pirates will produce more offense than last year. I just hope the pitching holds up so that it won't be in vain. They have 30 hits in the two games today. Burnitz. Randa, and Sadler have all went yard today. This Ray Sadler is intriguing. He plays all out and has a gun for an arm.

Re: Pirate Spring Training

Bucs won two more split squad games today. Gorzo and Maholm did fine. We scored 15 runs against the Reds and 9 runs aginst the Phils. The Bucs are a spring training machine. Please bring some of this into the regular season.
