Jack Wilson Weighs 200 lbs...

Jack Wilson was so distraught over his lost energy from his appendectomy last year that he went on a workout rampage in the off season. He has gained 20 lbs and he looks magnificent. He isn't bulky but he lost some of that little boy look. Jack Wilson batted .300 in the mnor leagues and was approaching that kind of hitting in 2004. 2005 really hurt his hitting because of the lost weight and energy from the surgery. He just didn't look the same last year. This could be a huge year for Jack Wilson.

BBB,

I heard the same thing from the PGH Post Gazette. Do you think he will hit for more power this year? Also, will this hurt his fielding skills?

WVU,

I guess according to the PG that Jack weighed 196 in 2004. 205 lbs is only nine more. Last year he weighed 185 and it showed. I don't think that he is too heavy at 205. If Jack Wilson has the year that he had in 2004 then the Pirates are in for a treat at that number two spot. If he performs at that level then I expect a pretty good offensive year from the Bucs. Jose Castillo and Jack Wilson having good years could really give this team a boost along with the new acquistions. Stranger things have happened. Remember the 69 Mets. They didn't have a lineup as good as this Pirate team.(Good pitching though)

BBB,

Pitching is key, always has been always will be. But like you mentioned, if Wilson can put up numbers like he did in the first half of 04 the Bucs will be in for a great performance at that 2 spot.

What are your thoughts on Casey this year? Is 25HRs and 80 RbIs being way to optimistic?

WVU,

I think your RBI total may be pretty accurate. I'm thinking that 20 Home runs would be his max because he sprays the ball all over the place. I don't see him taking advantage of that right field PNC wall as much as Burnitz.

I think your exactly right, Burnitz may be able to use the short wall in right to up his numbers. I would be happy with Casey getting 20 HRs and 80 RBIs though. Those are solid numbers. The Bucs just need to get some guys going around him, and I think they are capable!
