Its looking more and more like Pittsburgh's Freddy Sanchez might win the National League batting title this season. He's currently hitting .340, and has to be one of the biggest surprises in baseball considering he started the season behind Joe Randa on the Pirates depth chart. This kid Sanchez has one hell of a future ahead of him... just hope its in Pittsburgh!

Pity I cut him from my fantasy team...still great numbers for this kid...especially in the Pirate lineup...he doesn't have the protection other hitters get.

Cabrera passed him last night. it's going to go down to the wire, with Matt Holliday also in the mix at .336, to Cabrera's .340 and Sanchez's .339.

I think Miguel Cabrera will win it, if Matt Holliday doesn't. I wouldn't count on Sanchez since he has had his ups and downs the whole season.

I know that Joe Mauer will capture the Award in the AL.

Sanchez has been awful lately; it'd be nice to see him win it and salvage SOMETHING out of this season, but the way he's going, I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I'd go with Aramis Ramirez since he is a decent fielder and batter and one of the best 3Bs in the league.

Freddy Sanchez did indeed win the NL batting title, finishing the 2006 season with a .344 average, five points better than second place Miguel Cabrera of the Florida Marlins. It was a rough season for the Pirates, but the emergence of Sanchez - culminating in this honor - is a definite bright spot among all the clouds. Way to go, Freddy!

Yep, couldn't agree with you more, Kasey Fan. Can't wait to see what Sanchez will be able to do as a starter from the get-go next season. He and Bay should do some damage; now if we could just build a team around those two...
