Torontonian interested in penguins

David Fingold and his son Sam have looked at the books and are, as the Toronto Star reports "poised to make a bid to buy the struggling team".
Destination if all works out? kansas city. That is if the new rink does not get built in Pittsburgh.
apparently, Nashville, Atlanta and Phoenix are other teams that are entertaining buyout offers but - thanks to Crosby and some other young prospects -the penguins are the most delicious.
lemeiux owns them now. Asking price? 120-130 million.
I didn't know this - the penguins are partnered with acompany called Isle of capris Casinos Inc. they want to build a new slots casino and have also pledged to build the new arena (mellon Arena is 45 years old - the oldest in the NHL). But there are other competitors for the slots casino.
Last time Kansas City had an NHL franchise? the Scouts were there till 1976 when they moved to Colorado to become the Rockies.
kansas has a completed arena already.

Yeah, that casino place is our only hope of getting a new stadium built, but from a purely personal standpoint, I'm not sure legalizing table gaming is worth it. As much as it would hurt me to lose the pens -- and force me to do something desperate like rooting for the Blue Jackets -- its probably in the best interest of the city to let them go.

If Pittsburgh can't support the Penguins after their Stanely Cup legacy, K.C. will do little better...and Nashville, Atlanta and Phoenix...Geez, no southern Teams huh?...how many more can Canada take on?

You'd think we could take on some teams up here ie somewhere in manitoba. But I think it seems to be all about a new arena in Pittsburgh. are the fans there? what more could you give them than Crosby?

I dunno, Gotham. This area's fallen on some tougher times lately economically. Nearby communities are hurting because the steel industry is hurting, and there's only so much disposable income to burn. With the Steelers and Pirates here already, the Pens aren't getting much thrown their way. Plus they really haven't been putting a good product on the ice during the last several years.
