The Penguins have given head coach Michel Therrien a one-year contract extension.

According to the Associated Press, "Therrien, whose current deal was to expire after the upcoming season, led the team to a 47-24-11 record last season. The 47-point improvement was one of the biggest single-season turnarounds in NHL history." Financial terms were not disclosed. So, good idea keeping Therrien around? I'm sure happy with the direction of the team, so I'd vote yes.

Definitely. They would have been nuts to not sign him, should have in fact tried to sign him for longer.
This team did not succeed on Crosby alone.

I agree. But I do have to wonder, with all our young talent, just how much coaching really did have to do with it...

Since I actually don't play hockey, I will always be guessing at the impact a coach has on a team. But I think a coach gives cohesion, focus - which would be very important for a group of young guys who are just insanely excited to be in the NHL.
