They've decided to have no Captain out of respect for Mario.
Talking to reporters, Crosby mentioned Ovechkin, and how he turned down the 'C' earlier this week, which i hadn't heard - the Russian cited language issues and how effective he might be as leader.
Crosby says he understands the Penguins' decision and is okay with that.

Hanging on to tradition is all well and good, but giving Crosby the C would've given Pens fans a look at the future, the fresh start. Of course, I guess the ticket sales were pretty good from what I heard on the news the other day, so maybe we don't need any other inspiration.

They should name a Captain. But remember not everyone is fit to be captain. Clark Gillies was Islanders captain for a while but he said he got terrible headaches from the added responsibility Same thing with Kenny Jonson, he didn't get headaches but gave up his C for an "A."

I think it's pretty damn important, having a captain. Can't imagine what the Leafs'd be without a designated leader.
Maybe Crosby is too young - maybe someone else could step up. I always think it should be someone who has been shaving longer than 2 winters.

I'd think Crosby is too young. Let him have a few years in the NHL before you annoint him the leader of the team...although it's clear he's going to be sooner than later.

• remember the rangers had 3 A's each game last yeaer. They did not give a C out due to Mark Messier retirment. I don't know if they have given it to jagr yet or if there waiting to see if they sign leetch or what.

• This kid already has big pressure to keep performing, and to put the pens back on the map, why would you want to put more weight on his shoulder when this team needs a couple years anyway till they can think of the playoffs.

• Once you give him the C there will be even more media in his face. I say you let him go another year then give it to him. remember the players no who there captain is, they rely on that person and there usually the big motviation talker in the lockeroom. So if he does this already in the lockeroom why does he need to wear a C, it just brings more attetion to him.

ya but i dont think this is a mario decision, i think the front office saw wat messier got , and thought at the least mario deserved the same treatment, they both are the captains of that organzation, i cant think of a better captain in their organazations, ok maybe kelly kissio
