Back in August, I mentioned that I was not sold on Dave Wannstedt as the Panthers coach. Apparently I'm not alone after a 2-3 start. According to Yahoo! Sports rumors page, "Wannstedt's tenure with the Pitt Panthers will be ending if he doesn't make it to a bowl game in 2007... Though the program has recruited well, Pitt has yet to become consistently competitive in a Big East conference."

I was one of the fans that was wondering what Pitt was thinking when they pushed Walt Harris out and hired Dave Wannstedt? Dave never had a good season as a head coach and no experience as a head coach at the college level. And to top it off, he puts Matt Cavanaugh as his offensive coordinator? Although I never thought a whole lot of Walt Harris, his teams were at least respectable and not an embarassment to the University. The question is, if Pitt fired Dave Wannstedt, who would be the good candidates that would come to such a mess? I think Pitt has let themselves slide so far into mediocrity that a good head coach would be reluctant to even try to coach there. Perhaps a new Athletic Director will be able to clean house and start over. Thank goodness basketball is starting soon!!

Thank god I found this! I was starting to think that Dave Wandstedt had incriminating photos of everyone in Pittsburgh. I've written the gazette about this the whole year and never has the writer responded to my question. I can't believe he is still the Coach at Pitt! He's turned them into the new TEMPLE University of the Big East. I mean he should have been fired the first day when he hired Matt Cavanaugh the vaunted offensive coordinator of the most inept offense in the NFL Baltimore Ravens. I think Dave gets a pass a lot and for some reason keeps getting jobs. I hope that Pitt fire him, and hire someone with some flair. I think they should go after the guy from Boise State. How is PITT worse than South Florida, Rutgers, and UCONN.....Wake up Pittsburgh. Put Davey Boy on the first plane out of town.

I am big on Mike Locksley from illinois, he is one of the top recruiters in the country and cleans up in the DC, MD, ATL areas. He would be a great fit for our team. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT HIM AS OUR HEAD COACH!!!!

I really don't know that much about him but it seems that the majority of the Pitsburgh fans are not happy with him.

He beat WVU, and sadly, that will probably be enough for him to hang on for another season.

In Miami, we called it "Dave's Magic". Everywhere he's gone as a head coach, its happened. The first couple of years he does okay. His methods seem to work. Its about the 3rd or 4th year that things really start to smell. It takes a few years for the magic to work. By the fifth or sixth year, your team is a perenial looser. Look at the Bears or the Dolphins.

Wow, years later and still the same result. Wannstedt needs to go, if for no other reason besides his BIASED (old PItt buddies) AND INCOMPETENT backing of Matt Cavanaugh. Walt Harris being run out of town can now be confirmed to be a huge mistake. I don't have much faith in Wannstedt, but at least the defense is playing well and special teams. As bad of a head coaching choice as Wannstedt has proven (outside of recruiting) I actually don't mind if he stays a bit longer IF HE FIRES Matt Cavanaugh - this is sooo over due it's not funny. Palko argued with Matt Cavanaugh on the sidelines (that sums it up right there), Baldwin still can't do anything more than a deep fade (yet Bryant and Fitzgerald played extensively as freshman in a more complicated offense with Harris) Cross's red shirt was wasted, as his talent, the play calling is and has been horrendous, Mccoy has valid reason to leave with MC running the offense - El Paso was a disaster and typified everything that is wrong with his offense. There is so much, read Paul Ziese's blog on the Post Gazette - his assessment of the Sun Bowl alone provides all that you need to know - it screams what every Pitt fan is screaming at their TV - and every intelligent sports fan. Hell, even the announcers were amazed at MC's stupidity during that game. At Baltimore HE WAS THE PROBLEM when the won the Super Bowl, not part of why they won - they went 4 games without a touchdown with 3 pro bowlers on offense!! HE HAS TO GO!! And if Wannstedt wants to go down with the ship, so be it. Mccoy deserved better!

OH, AND DAVE WANNSTEDT, explain to me WHAT QUARTERBACKS HAS MATT CAVANAUGH DEVELOPED?? Are you kidding me? Kevan SMith - 2 star recruit, huge mistake and has gotten worse, Bostic was the 4th ranked recruit in the nation and he's gotten worse, Stull has gotten worse, he ruined Palko, and let NFL STAR Flacco walk away!!! And let's go back to the Raven's, nothing there either. Give me a break, GET RID OF HIM!!
