Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

Report: Nash to win second straight MVP award

In short, The Arizona Republic is reporting that sources have told them that Steve Nash will be named the NBA's MVP for the second straight season. If so, he'll be the 10th player to win back-to-back awards. Is he a deserving recipient?

Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

He is deserving, but I do think Kobe and Lebron were the two best players all season. In all actuality there are at least five people one can make a legitimate argument for. I just have a difficult time giving the MVP to someone who plays little to no defense. And back to back years? Yikes.

Cool Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

Nash? That baffles me. I agree with cjg except I woud put Brand and Lebron as the top 2.

Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

Brand was definitely in my top five, but I think Cassell has played such a significant role on that team that Brand place him at #5 behind Kobe, Lebron, Nash and Nowitzki.

Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

Lebron James should be the MVP. I watched him tonight, nobody can make him give up the ball and keep him from the basket. He was definitely fouled on the last shot he hit to win the game, but nothing was called. The rest of his team is a bunch of journeymen; when he finally gets someone of a high caliber to play with, look out! He says all the right things after the game and isn't a me-first guy. Oh, and he is only 21! I was skeptical that a high school kid could be as good as he was supposed to be, but he is even better than advertised. Barring injuries, he will be one of the greatest to ever play the game. Put Nash on Cleveland and see how many games they win-put James on the Suns and they would have an even better record. The MVP award, to begin with, doesn't really make sense, as there are so many key players to their teams that it isn't really possible to name one man as more valuable than another. It should be player of the year or something like that.

Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

Kobe Bryant should have won MVP this year. I understand he is unpopular with the media and many fans for the rape accusation as well as the fact he plays for the Lakers. But it is difficult to dispute the year he had for the Lakers.

Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

Steve Nash deserves the MVP Award but I think they could've picked a better player for MVP, like Kobe Bryant. I mean that Steve Nash played well all season long, but I would've rather seen them give the award to Kobe. But at least the award isn't official yet because the NBA didn't announce it to the public.

Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

Nash, argh. If excitement, energy and lack of defensive ability were all that made up an MVP, Jason Williams would have won the award when he was with Sacramento.

Should have been Kobe or LeBron...no wonder Kobe is talking so much smack at Canada's boy in their playoff series.

Cheers, all.

Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

The last count was taken by RussRex2424 and had:

Kobe- 16.5
LeBron-15
AI-9
Brand-6
Nash-5.5
Dirk-4
Billups-1
Arenas-1
Pierce-1
...So i guess we should give it to Kobe. (That's cool; i voted for him.) Should we start a thread for Coach of the Year? Wait, i will...

Cheers, all.

I haven't been here that long, Gotham Dark Knight. But I am sure that I am one of the top contenders for the Rookie of the Year Award.

Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

Funny, isn't it -- the guy whose going to win the actual MVP award finishes fifth in our voting. Every single one of those guys above him is a more deserving candidate, too. What is the NBA thinking?

Re: Arizona Republic: Nash is NBA MVP

I don't know. I can't speak for the NBA since they do so many unpredictable things.

However, I am sure that they are hearing a lot of feedback from the fans about this issue. Hopefully, they will change their mind before they make their final decision.

By the way, that was a really close vote there. LeBron almost had it, but Kobe pulls the trophy out of his hands. Better luck next year, LeBron James.

The Suns went from an 8 seed the year before Nash to the #1 seed last year, which was the first year Nash played for the Suns. Before Nash, the Suns were not a very good team. Nash has been the PG for the highest scoring team in the NBA for the last 5 consecutive years. However, I agree that LeBron is better, but not by that great of a margin just yet. But in reality, there is no peer in the league for Kobe Bryant. He is simply the best player in the NBA.
