Another two-word game. For last week’s 28-point win over the Heat the words were "Ho" and "Hum." For last night’s 19-point win over the Cavaliers we’re going with "Awe" and "Some."
This was billed as a showdown between No. 1 in the East and No. 1A in the West, but it turned into a mowdown. And as the old line goes, the game wasn’t nearly as close as the final score (109-90) indicates.
To give you an idea how devastating the Suns were, the question of whether the offense or defense should get the game ball is too close to call. Certainly you just can’t play much better offensively than the Suns did in the first half while piling up 67 points on 55 percent shooting with 25 assists and only two turnovers. But a lot of that offense was set up at the other end, where the Suns held the Cavs to 41 points on 36 percent shooting.
And when you miss shots against the Suns, especially from the perimeter, you’re basically pouring gasoline on the most explosive fast break on the plant, as witness the 34 points the Suns piled up in that category for the game.
The Suns took a seven-game winning streak into the game Thursday night, but the players, especially Steve Nash, kept insisting all along that they could play a lot better. And apparently they were absolutely right.
