Gretzky as a Coach and GM

After several years, I think it is fair to say that Wayne Gretzky isn't exactly a whiz as a coach and front office executive. He has not yet made the playoffs with the Coyotes, but they did get better this past season. A reporter for the Arizona Republic suggested, about a year ago, that Gretzky was using his executive power as a means of hiring a number of his old pals to hockey jobs, despite their apparent lack of credentials. Hopefully, if that was ever true, he's revised his vision for the team for the better.

Re: Gretzky as a Coach and GM

maybe I'm naive but I believe Gretzky didn't gamble and that his wife did.
He's a top notch guy. I can't see him letting her take the fall. Not in his make-up.

Re: Gretzky as a Coach and GM

I've never met Gretzky personally (not that I care), but I must say he got a lot of mileage from playing nearly all of his hockey (very well, incidentally) at one end of the ice. I know Gordie Howe doesn't have numbers that match his, but he played hard at both ends of the rink.

Yeah I agree - you could say gretzky was no Gordie Howe.
