| Zbynek Michalek injured According to Pa. Sportsticker reports, "The Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday announced they will open the season without defenseman Zbynek Michalek, who suffered a broken hand during practice a day earlier... With the injury, which is expected to sideline Michalek for four to six weeks, the Coyotes were left with just five healthy defensemen on their roster for Thursday night's season opener against the St. Louis Blues."
