Phils lose thier voice today, Harry Kalas passes.

Well, I am sort of at a loss for words, which is rare for me.

The Voice of the Phillies, Harry Kalas, died today as he was preparing for the Phils game VS the Nationals, in our Nations Capitol.

For now, I leave you with a link to Philly sport site, and will allow you to read their words.

For as long as I can remember, Harry Kalas was the voice of my team, the voice of summer, and the voice of a sport that I just have a ton of love and passion for.

This loss cuts deep for the Delaware Valley, and for me.

I hope you'll indulge me over the coming few days as I try to find the words, both from myself and others, to properly convey how much Harry meant to this entire region.

Re: Phils lose thier voice today, Harry Kalas passes.

Growing up a Phillies fan, one couldn't help falling in love with Harry's voice. I for one have been a Phils fan ever since I could understand the game of baseball, and he was calling games for the organization long before that. I am just happy that he finally got to call his World Series; he had his greatest curtain call. He will never be forgotten in Philadelphia or the surrounding areas.

He had high hopes, he had high hopes!

Re: Phils lose thier voice today, Harry Kalas passes.

I've just been glued to the TV all night.

They had a great tribute on for two hours last night about him, and even Mike and Mike today are talking about him.

Being born in 1967, I only remember Harrys voice, since he started in 1971.

I just can't imagine this game without Harry, but I guess it will go on.

I'll just share on line from Mike and Mike this morning, and that will give us another moment to smile about.

Jayson Stark is on Mike and Mike right now, and told the story of Doug Glanvilles inside the park home run.

Glanville told Jayson Stark that as he crossed home plate, he was actually thinking about Harry K, and was wondering what he was saying. He wanted to hear the tape, not to see himself doing it, but to hear Harry describe it.

Another memory is of Mike Schmidt's 500th HR. The players were still in the locker room after that game, and all of Mikes interviews.

They all waited for Harry to get there, since he was bringing the tape of the HR call as he had broadcast it.

I'm stealing Jaysons line here, but it is almost like it didn't happen if Harry didn't broadcast it.

The uproar here in 1980 when Harry couldn't call the WS that year was awesome.

And I know that I couldn't wait to see the comcast post game after the Phils clenched the Series this past year.

I'll share one more thing I heard this morning, and I wish I could say this was my own insight.

I'm going to quote this, although I don't remember who said it.

"Baseball announcers are like family members. They go with you to the beach, to the mountains, everywhere you take your favorite game. They help bridge the generations."

Those words surely help make it clear what a loss this is for the fans of this area.

I know he was also the voice of NFL films, but Harry Kalas was our guy, our announcer, and our friend.

Baseball won't ever be the same. It will still be great, but it was off the charts with Harry.

Even during the off years, and we've had plenty of em, a game was still a pleasure to watch when Harry was there.

RIP old friend.

You are already missed...

Thanks Loco. I just can't see the games being the same without him.

In my head, I know things will go on. Things always do.

But something really special has left us.

Makes me feel old!
