| Re: J C Romero Suspended 50 games for banned substance Fine. The next time he will look at the end result of a product. Sort of like the guy who used to get high on coke but now likes to get high on imported frogs from Costa Rica. Different product - SAME result. |

| Re: J C Romero Suspended 50 games for banned substance I think the easiest way to avoid these problems is for the Union and MLB to review these OTC products. Honestly if it is being sold at GNC how can a reasonable person not assume it is OK. If your kid has a fever and you go to Walgreen's to get some cold syrup or fever reducer, don't you assume/believe that it is a "safe" product that has been FDA tested and approved??? I am not a scientist, I don't know what the chemical composition of Advil is, I rely on the FDA to test and approve these products before making them available to the general public. If MLB and the Union say OTC products are OK to take then the players have to believe that they have been tested. MLB must have a list of "safe" OTC products, Romero should have simply asked the Phils trainer to ask if this product was on the list. If it was on the "safe" list then no problem. If it was banned or not on the list because it was new, then it is his responsibility and the Phils trainer to alert MLB and the Union about a new OTC product. But until he heard back from either MLB or the Union about this new product he should not have taken it. He is then guilty of negligence, plain and simple. Do I think 50 games is steep for simple negligence.... yes. 25 games is more reasonable for someone making a stupid mistake. |

| Re: J C Romero Suspended 50 games for banned substance You would think if there is money in it, MLB would make them. But think they are leary of being involved in "drug" business. Everyone knows and accepts that drugs are part of football. But baseball is supposed to be "clean". That's why they are so harsh on penalties, IMO. |

Then pretty much anything that doesn't come from them is banned. If they are worried about seeming to profit from it, then give the proceeds to charity. I just think the NFL does a better job today in the regard. |

So do you think the NFL should get out of the business of supplying legal, natural stuff? How about if we just try prayer to heal injuries, and leaches as well. Leaches would work well. Come on, get real. I have no issue with folks using stuff that is legal. Romero didn't, and he got suspended. But I can't see where using the best stuff that is approved for use is a big deal. I bet most of the folks on here couldn't' even do pre-game workouts without being gassed, much less play 160+ games over six months, and work outs, and practice, and so on and so on. I'm not about to judge those doing things the right way. I bet you there isn't 1 in 10 pro athletes that isn't taking something, and as long as it's legal and authorized, I think that is all the leagues should be worried about. |
