Rollins, Victorino win NL Gold Gloves

But the surprising thing about his story is the Astros not winning one, despite having the fewest NL errors.

Strange.

I hear ya about Maddus and Rollins.

But didn't Steve Carlton have a bunch back in his day?

Ah well, the team won the only thing that really matters.

What did you think about the Astros not getting any?

Carlton only one 1, in 1981. Read the Rob Neyer article. He is very critical of Victorino (and other winners). Interesting that he says Victorino has no range. Surprised me because while Victorino does have a better then average arm (not in Francouer's class) I also thought his speed gave him much more range then other CF, like Beltran or Rowand.

I agree as well. I think Shanes speed makes the plays look easier, and that might have hurt him in some folks eyes.

I think to say he has no range just makes the writer look downright stupid. Or at least someone that doesn't watch many games of the Phils.

Ah well, the only award that matters to me is in Philly, and that is the bottom line!

Re: Rollins, Victorino win NL Gold Gloves

How very true!!!! I think Victorino has more range then Beltran, although I think Beltran is a better CF. Certainly he is much better then Rowand. Hard to believe how negative people were when they let Rowand. Yes, shame to let a good guy go, but money he wanted and numbers he put up made it a no brainer. Now everyone is worried abt LF. Why people think we will trade for Holliday is beyond me. Another Boras client, so you know he will only be with us for one year, not worth giving Colorado our good prospects for a rental. Plus his numbers outside of Colorado are not good.... can we say Dante Bichette?? Bradley's name comes up and while he is a damn good player, he is a head case and we don't need to mess with good clubhouse chemistry. If Baldelli was healthy I would think about him.... maybe even a platoon with him and Jenkins would work. But why not simply give Burrell a 2 yr deal for $20-25M. Then have an option year that kicks in if he hits say, 25 HR, 85 RBI and hits .270. That way if he is still productive he stays, if not he fills LF until we find a prospect to replace him.

Re: Rollins, Victorino win NL Gold Gloves

Wow, I can't argue much there. Rowand ended up being a non factor in his absence.

I also hope Burrell stays. At the beginning of the year, I was ready to let him go, but he finally opened up a bit and became a "Philly Guy" this year.

He showed some emotion through the year, and convinced me that he's playing hard, and that baseball matters to him.

I would be fine with keeping him. I think despite his flaws, he is a good fit for this team.
