Rain delay in game 5

But it might just be all the tears from the Rays coaching staff soaking the field.

I don't ever wanna hear anyone talking about the Phils complaining.

There have been bad calls both ways.

The worst had to be the Rays coaches not knowing the count, and getting angry about the called strike on the stolen base.

Most of the calls tonight surely went the Rays way.

And if the weather hurt anyone, it hurt the Phils.

This just delays the Rays demise.

Gotta head to bed, 4 am comoes to early for delay, this sucks.

First chance to see a win in 28 years, and the weather screws it up.

Re: Rain delay in game 5

This game should never have started. I blame Fox and their ridiculous starting time of 8:30. If this game was played an hour earlier it would have been fine.

This is a stupid rule for the world series .. I think if you have to delay ( call it off ) the game and have to replay it ? It should be the whole game and start all over again , no matter what the score is .

Just my opinion . If you can't finish the whole game in the World Series ? Then you do it all over again until you can finish it completely . I think that how it should be played . When you do what they done ? It changes the whole game completely. I thought it suck that way .

Oh yeah . It wouldn't be a waste of time if you couldn't finish it completely . All the fans would be able to come back again , so they get to see more exciting baseball and players would get to play more . Isn't this what these players like to do in the first place , to be playing in the world series ?

Why would you want to penalize the team that was winning? If the game was tied, then maybe....but it would be severely unfair to penalize a team with a lead.

The lowest rated game in World Series history and yes, this "Fall Classic" is the lowest rated of all times.

Re: Rain delay in game 5

The first half of game 5, but not the conclusion.

And who cares who watched?

What impact does that have on the Champ.

Maybe the moron commish might think about starting games at a time that will allow them to end before midnght, so folks can watch.

What is with all the negatives from folks about this WS?

I don't get it. We are sports fans here, not ratings fans.

I could care less if 5 folks watched it. I did, and I loved it, and about 2-3 mill in Philly did as well.

Anyone else can pound sand!

Thumbs up Re: Rain delay in game 5

I think because the media image (right and wrong) of Philly and Philly fans is we are all boorish, loud, obniouxous, beer drinking, cheese steak eating louts. We are not the "lovable losers" rooting for the Cubbies. Nor are we the angst ridden, chip on our shoulder Red Sox, always living in the shadow (their perception) of the Yankees. We are like the disgusting 2nd cousin who you have to invite to the wedding but you cringe in regards to what he might do or say. Are some Philly fans like that.... yeah, my cousins certainly. Are ALL Philly fans like that.... no. The fact that we had to listen to Fox ram down our throats the story of no championships in Philly in 28 yrs, blah, blah, blah.... it even had me hating Philly. Fox, to me, has truly ruined, not only baseball, but all major sports. Their greed for more and more has taken any joy from the common fan. Instead they try and play up every "rivalry", every so called "grudge match", everything and anything to boost ratings. They take the lions share of the tickets and force prices up so that the average fan can't afford to go to a playoff game. I watched the whole series with the sound turned down and the local Philly announcers on the radio turned up. Hell, I would have prefered listening to the Rays announcers rather then Buck and McCarver and their constant, annoying attempts to make every pitch or situation seem like life or death. Think they, and the rest of the media, played up a Dodgers-Red Sox Series as the ultimate, and when they did not get it, it was easy to see this series as a let down. Anyway...I enjoyed it and I am sure real fans liked seeing gd young players from both teams who will hopefully be around for awhile. Think this is like 96 again... but instead of meeting Jeter, the Jones boys, Rivera, Williams, and Pettitte we get Howard, Utley, Hamels, Price, Upton and Longoria.

That is all so true. Folks are so close minded. I guess we should only desire to watch the alledged "big guns".

So how do we get to know the next big guns?

Fox and a lot of fans want the major teams.

Well. for all we know, these two teams might be back here for the next few years.

How long would it take folks to embrace them?

Bottom line to me, is, WGAF?

The Phils came, saw, and took away the big prize!

And the 7 folks that some say watched it saw the future in players like Rollins, Utley, Howard, Lidge, Hamels, and many others.

Longoria, Pena, BJ Upton, Price, Garza.

Who knows, next season folks might be kicking themselves for missing out on some of these players attempt at carving out a name for themselves.

Who knows where the next Dynasty is going to come from?

I'm not gonna claim Philly is it, but no one else can prove they aren't either!

Re: Rain delay in game 5

Exactly. Maybe TB is the team of the future.... who knows. I do think that teams will look at both teams as reasons to build from within. Sure it's easy to look at TB and say" well if you sux for 10 years you always get high draft picks". But they also got alot of those guys from trades...Navarro, Garza, and Kazmir. Or picked them up off the scrap heap...Floyd and Pena. So without spending $200M, they managed to find a championship-caliber team. The Phils were more home built, but also added thru small FA signings...Werth, Romero and Feliz and thru small trades... Moyer, Blanton and Lidge. We speant more money signing guys to long term deals... something TB has started to do now. I think we will start to see more mid-level teams making the playoffs now. Colorado last year for example. Down the road watch KC, if they can get a good GM, and Florida. Atlanta seems like they are looking to build more from within and from trades instead of big FA. Teams like NY's and Boston will keep trying to buy a championship but think it will not work. The Yanks of the late 90's and the Sox first champs were all about chemistry and teamwork (a bunch of idiots), something they seem to have lost now.

They already start too early for a lot of us on the West Coast, hard to watch the games if you're still at work or stuck in rush hour traffic!

Re: Rain delay in game 5

So what's the compromise??? 4pm on east coast is 1pm out west. People can watch at work if possible, although east coast will also be in traffic eventually. how abt 2 pm east, 11 am west?? Anyway you work it some one is not going to be happy, but the current format of letting FOX decide is wrong. MLB should start their own network and let the teams dictate starting times.
