Trade dead line pitchers

It seems that the pressure is building on the Phils to get a top-line SP before the trade deadline. The media and fans seem determined to force some action, regardless of cost. The recent trades of Sabathia and Harden show that SP can be gotten, at surprisingly low cost. Granted Sabathia was a special case as he will be a free agent at year end and has made it known he will test FA mkt, so no one was willing to part with anything too valuable. Cubs got Harden for cheap ( I think) but again, here is a guy who has a history of injuries and has never made 20 starts in a year. The Phils have only a few valuable pieces in the farm system but what SP out there is worth them? Burnett?? Another guy with a history of injury and a big price tag. Berard?? Seattle gave the farm for a generally mediocre pitcher coming off a career year. And he has reverted back to form. Maddux?? Future HOF but a flyball guy who would not do well here. As much as I would love for us to add a solid SP, I don't see anyone out there who would help us that much at a reasonable cost. To me Carrasco (sp) is untouchable. What does everyone else think?

Re: Trade dead line pitchers

I can definitely see Maddux getting dealt, maybe to a team that'll give him some run support.
Beyond that, I'm not sure. I bet my Pirates will be having a fire sale, if anyone wants to trade for a struggling Tom Gorzelanny.

Re: Trade dead line pitchers

I would have thought Maddux to the Cubs would have been great. Team he started with, playoff hunt, etc. But not to be. The Pirates have some good young arms but not the top of the rotation guy that the fans are screaming for. But to me... we don't need a #1 or a #2 we need a good solid #3 or 4. Something we are lacking in Eaton and Myers.
