| Phils injury updates, Roster moves Manuel said Rollins will sit out of Sunday afternoon’s game with the hope of the reigning MVP returning to the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Houston Astros. Admittedly, Manuel says he’s had some difficulty in making out his lineup without Rollins planted firmly at the top of it because of the type of hitters the Phillies have.
Nevertheless, filling out his lineup card for Sunday’s game will be even more difficult for the manager since center fielder Victorino will be on the bench for the next 15 days with a strained right calf muscle.
To replace Victorino on the roster the Phillies announced that they had purchased the contract of Chris Snelling from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Snelling was hitting .231 in nine games for Lehigh Valley.
Manuel said Victorino hurt his calf while running down a long fly ball hit by Mark De Rosa that he caught up against the fence to end the inning.
Victorino remained in the game until the end of the sixth when he exited after attempting to leg out an infield hit.
“He was hurting when I took him out of the game,” Manuel said.
Last August Victorino missed three weeks of the season with an injured right calf.
But what makes Victorino’s injury even worse is that he was filling in for Rollins as the team’s leadoff hitter. Counting Saturday night’s 2-for-4 outing, Victorino had reached base in five of his last eight plate appearances and scored a pair of runs. From Castcast Sportsnet Philly!
