Is Ryan HOward worth 7Mil or 10mil???

A divide for Phillies and Howard | Philadelphia Inquirer | 01/19/2008

That is the question being asked here. I say he is worth the 10 mil. I hope he can cut down on the strikeouts and errors, but I really don't want him PO'd!!!

We have to build on last year. They have gotten him so cheap over the last two seasons, just pay him. Pay him 10 mil for one year, and go from there. I'm still not ready to give him that money long term.

I'm sure this is gonna get interesting.

I agree, he's worth the $10 mil. He's young and only going to get better.

He is the reason the Phillies even made it to the playoffs.

Yep, I agree. Give him $10/season and lock him up for as long as humanly possible.

Yeah, I think by today's standard he is worth $10 mil...I think he can put fannies in the seats too. So pay the man...I think they will keep him Rollins, and Utley together until they win a title or lose all hope.

Cool Re: Is Ryan HOward worth 7Mil or 10mil???

How about 14 million? He would get at least that on the open market.

Solid Glove?? You obviously have not seen him play that much. The guy is a great power hitter, but his K's are unbelievable. All too often his boxscore is 1-4 with 3 K and a 2R HR. His fielding his, while not horrendous, is below average. He does not move well to cover on bunts or on balls hit to his right. Nor does he handle balls in the dirt well. Give him $7 now. He still has 2 more years after this of arbitration to show us which direction will he take, i.e. K's continue to rise as power numbers weaken, or does he start to hit for better avg and become more like Pujols?

Re: Is Ryan HOward worth 7Mil or 10mil???

I would offer him as many years as he wanted for $10 million. Heck, Ted Lilly and Gil Meche are making more than that a year. He is more important to a team than either of those two.

True he is more important and a better player then either of them. But he has played only 2 1/2 yrs. And while they have been very gd years, there are question marks. He will be 29 soon and most ball players peak between 27-31 so is this the best he will be?? Will the next 5 years just be a slow decline of skills??? He already K's way too much and his batting avg fell over 50 pts this year. I say go to arbitration this year and see how he does. He still has 2 more years left with the Phils so ntg to get excited about.
