Thumbs up PHILS SIGN Geoff Jenkins

Good or bad.. I don't know. Gd in they only signed him for 2 years at $13M total so can not complain about that. I guess they feel Werth can not handle the whole load all season but it also gives us 4 good OF. Victorino goes to CF and defensively he is a huge upgrade on Rowand. For those who have not seen him play, he has great speed and an absolute cannon of an arm... not as good as Francouer but not far behind. Would like to see another arm or two... hear Chad Durbin and Kris Benson being mentioned a lot.

Re: PHILS SIGN Geoff Jenkins

Victorino is a good player. His speed/arm are as good as any in the league.

With Jenkins, don't expect him to win any batting titles but he does have some pop in his bat. It's not like the Phillies will be hurting for offense though with the last two NL MVPs in the line-up.

Jenkins can still give you 130 games and 20-25 homers...which is nice if you can afford the bat...

Though Victorino is good, I would not call him a 'huge" upgrade from Rowand...that is totally selling Rowand short.

Re: PHILS SIGN Geoff Jenkins

Yeah, Jenkins is a nice pick up. Like Goth said, he can put up decent numbers while platooning with Victorino. I like it.

Thumbs up Re: PHILS SIGN Geoff Jenkins

No, Jenkins will platoon in RF with Werth... Victorino will be full time CF. And I must disagree... Victorino in the field is a huge!! upgrade on Rowand. Victorino has one of the top 5 arms in baseball, just below Francoeur and Guerreo. Plus his speed allows him to get to balls that Rowand never stood a chance at. Rowand made a lot of great catches but his lack of speed kept him from getting to a lot of balls. Victorino now makes the Phils OF that much better. While he may not hit as many HR's as Rowand, Victorino will steal more bases, score more runs, and hit for a higher average. Plus he is younger and much cheaper which allows the Phils to spend that money somewhere that they need it. If you have never seen Victorino play you will be in for a great surprise when you do. Rowand made a name by running into walls for balls, something Victorino's speed will allow him to make easier.

Re: PHILS SIGN Geoff Jenkins

Guess I Missed this post! Glad I checked in. Outfield will be no problem for the Phis. They may not have the HR power of some other teams, but I don't think that will be an issue with this team.
