Myers apologies for his choice of words

Brett Myers wishes he used a different word. Two days after the Phillies' closer got into a verbal altercation with a reporter, Myers still was upset he called the writer a "retard.""I shouldn't have said that," Myers said before Philadelphia played the New York Mets on Monday night. "I didn't mean to offend anybody."
Myers allowed two solo homers in the ninth inning of the Phillies' 4-3 loss to San Diego on Saturday night. He told reporters a few times after the game that he didn't think either ball was hit well, calling both "popups." When one writer asked him to repeat his answer, the emotional Myers became irritated.
The two exchanged words and had to be physically separated, though no punches were thrown. After cooling off for a bit, Myers returned to his locker, apologized to the remaining reporters and answered more questions. He even did a television interview.
"I was frustrated, but I never should've used that word," Myers said.

Myers is a punk. I need him to pitch well, since he is on my team, but I wouldn't be all the upset if he went away at the end of his contract.

Punk or not...have we gotten so freakin PC fragile that we can't say "Retard" in the heat of the moment without it being followed by the apology?...come on now...to a writer? ...give me a break...do writers cut him slack when he blows a game...whatever...I would go along with half of the writers I have seen , having moments worthy of being called..."retards"...

Well, the issue with him is not so much the "retard" comment. That went away as quick as it started here. The bigger deal is still the wife beating deal.

I do agree about the PC crap. He has had a good relationship with the press, even through the beating deal.

It was reported here that it is an ongoing deal with him and this reporter, who is not a regular baseball reporter here.

And he didn't give an apology to the writer, I wouldn't either!

Lots of apologies in sports this week. Too much media at these games, all looking for a scoop on a baseball game.
