As the Associated Press is reporting, "Ryan Howard hit his 100th career homer in his 325th game Wednesday night, becoming the fastest player to reach that total, according to the Elias Sports Bureau." He had 22 in his rookie season, 58 last year and 18 so far this year, so says the AP. I'm no math expert, but by those numbers he's missing a few somewhere. So anyway, is this kid someone who could ultimately make a run at 800 career dingers (or more)?

hmmmm, those numbers don't quite add up!! But either way, he got it done 65 games quicker than the next. I think he hit a couple during call ups. He did play for the club briefly before his official rookie season, I think!

2004 2 HR
2005 22 HR
2006 58 HR
2007 18 HR

Wrong body make up to make a run at 800 I think...those that may get there I do not think start so heavy and muscle bound, I think he will start losingbat speed around when he gets to be 34-35 ...I think the guy who gets there will start early like Griffey Jr. have a build like A-Rod and the quick wrists of Aaron...Howard and Fielder I think will get to the 450-500 range if lucky.

Yeah, I think I tend to agree with your assessment. So many of these bigger guys wind up with back and knee problems later on in their career, so 400-500 for Howard sounds about right before his body starts to fail him. How old is Howard right now, anyway?

That's the other thing, he is old...he is 27....so even at 10 seasons of 40...he only begins to get to 500...at that point he is 37, and a lot heavier...I don't even see 600 in the cards for him.

I think your are right!

And Howard was born 11/19/79, so he will be 28 late this year. He got too late a start for breaking the all time HR record. The single season mark might be his if he stays consistent, and cuts down the strikeouts!

I'll be happy if he just helps my team win!
