Re: Jimmy Rollins streak at 37 games Earlier today, I saw something that claimed that, officially, the streak doesn't count. The source (sorry, forgot where it was) said MLB keeps separate records for single-season and multi-season hitting streaks. I really hope this isn't the case. Does anyone know for sure? Either way, its still an impressive feat for Rollins!

Re: Jimmy Rollins streak at 37 games Well, the streak is over. Rollins went 0-for-4 Thursday in Philly's 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. His 38-game hitting streak is the eighth-longest in baseball history. Shame he didn't manage to keep it going, but it was still a nice feat for the young man.

Re: Jimmy Rollins hitting streak Although it would have been a great feat, probably harder over two seasons, it would have been tainted, in my opinion, after Tony LaRussa told his pitcher to throw Rollins a strike in the opener after he had gone 3-0 on him in the eighth inning. Rollins proceeded to double. DiMaggio's streak ended when Indians' third baseman Ken Keltner made two outstanding plays on balls Joe D hit and threw him out at first. It cost DiMaggio alot of money, as Heinz 57 sauce was ready to use him to endorse their product! Then DiMaggio hit in something like 17 in a row after that game.

Re: Jimmy Rollins hitting streak LaRussa said he didn't want anyone pitching around Rollins. I guess the strategy worked in some ways, as they did manage to sweep the series. But if a guy's that hot, why in the world would you pitch to him?
