In today's dissapointing loss (from the Phillies p.o.v.), Jimmy Rollins didn't exactly have a great day. An excerpt from MetsBlog : "...give a game ball to Jimmy Rollins for hitting into a double play with the bases loaded in the fourth, mishandling a high chopper on a Carlos Beltran infield single and committing a costly error in the Mets seven-run eighth..."


During the big 8th inning for the Mets, the Shea faithful began chanting 'JIMMY ROLLINS' in a mocking tone. It was a hilarious thing to see/hear.

This all stems from spring training when Rollins proclaimed the Phillies were the team to beat in the NL East. Now they're 1-6 and dead last in the division after yet another slow start to the year. They may have a decent rotation but that bullpen is godawful.

This is why I hate the media. one week into the season and people screaming its over! The same people who 2 weeks ago said the Phils were a division contender. Yeah, it helps to get off to a fast start, i.e the White Sox in 2005 and the Tigers last year. But there are just as many times a team has start slow and come on strong. For whatever reason, the Phils seem to start slow, except for Burrell. Howard is not hitting and has made 3 errors already. Utley looks bad at the plate. But lets not throw in the towel yet.
P.S. I agree the bullpen is awful

Willie Randolph even said what Rollins said wasn't bad. All he said was we're the team to beat. He didn't make any disparraging remarks about the Mets. But hey, whatever gets you fired up.

It all depends on what side of the fence your on. Either the comments were fine and used to fire up the team (with some Phillies said they were meant to do) or they were out of line, useless and offended the other teams.

It's sort of nice to see someone talk like that in MLB since you don't usually see it. As long as Rollins is willing to possibly eat crow, then all's fair.

He's eating crow because he made an error that lead to two runs for us.
He's not a bad guy, New York is just that kind of town. Don't open your mouth unless you plan on playing perfect in our house. lol.

Rollins is a good player and was the hottest player on the Phils until yesterday's game.

It was just ironic how he was the one to say the Phils were the best and then at Shea he didn't have a good offensive game and had a major error that led to a big Mets inning.

Does anyone else think Manuel may lose his job before the All Star break?

Yeah, I think Charlie will be in big trouble if the Phils are not either in 1st or within 5 games of 1st by the All Star. These slow starts are killing us. The Braves are on fire and Florida is playing well. We need to play the Nats soon to get on track.

At least Rollins is backing up his talk with his production. The rest of the team has to do something, once in a while.

Rollins did have a great game offensively yesterday. The rest of the team couldn't come through though.

Rollin is the only player who can/has played well this year! Billy Wagner get an earful (unfairly), when he comes here too! It's a bad start, but it is only April!

That's just the nature of the game when you come to NYC. If you make comments and can't back em up you'll hear it and if you make and you do you'll hear it even worse. I doubt the Phillies will stay this bad all season though.

Anyone see Charlie freak out on the reporter last night, btw?
