Brett Myers contract

According to the Associated Press, "Right-hander Brett Myers agreed to a $25.75 million, three-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, avoiding arbitration... A former first-round pick, Myers has won at least 11 games each of the past four seasons. The deal is contingent upon Myers passing a physical." Your reactions to the signing?

Re: Brett Myers contract

He has the potential to be a top of the rotation starter but always has some trouble at some point. Last year's off the field problems didn't help matters. Neither does the fact he pitches in one of the smallest parks in the game.

But the Phillies have a bunch of solid pitchers.

Re: Brett Myers contract

Small park?? Here are 3 ball parks... you tell me which one is CBP.

1) 338L-- 371LC--410C--371RC--338R

2) 330L-- 374LC--401C--369RC--329R

3) 334L --367LC--396C--385RC--322R

One of these parks is CBP and the other two are both considered "pitchers parks".

Re: Brett Myers contract

I don't know njpsufan, I got these numbers from ballparks.com "Dimensions: Left field line: 329 ft.; power alley: 369 ft. (2004), 374 ft. (2006); LF corner: 385 ft. (2004), 390 ft. (2006); inner corner: 381 ft.; left of CF: 409 ft.; center field: 401 ft.; right of CF: 398 ft.; RF power alley: 369 ft.; right field line: 330 ft."

A simple pop-up just flies out of that park.

A bit much for a middle of the rotation pitcher...but who the heck knows any more...

Re: Brett Myers contract

My point is which of the parks was CBP?? Obviously #2. While I wil agree that the ball does seem to carry well, it is no longer a "bandbox". I had the misfortune of being at the Phils/Red Sox game where Manny hit a grandslam on a simple fly to right that just kept carrying. The problem is they need to add length down the line. Look at #2 and #3. #2 looks more spacious but #3 is PETCO Park in SD.. a well known pitchers park. The problem in CBP is the wind and the ability of the ball to carry, esp in the summer. BTW #1 was Shea.. another pitchers park.
