| Cook outduels Hamels as Rockies nip Phillies, tie series Rockies 5, Phillies 4Cook outduels Hamels as Rockies nip Phillies, tie series PHILADELPHIA -- By the time Cole Hamels rushed off to be with his pregnant wife, his streak of postseason dominance was long over. Yorvit Torrealba hit a two-run homer, Aaron Cook pitched effectively into the sixth inning and the Colorado Rockies beat Hamels and the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 on Thursday to even their NL playoff series at a game apiece. Huston Street pitched out of trouble in the ninth to secure the win for Colorado. He retired Shane Victorino on a soft liner to second to leave the potential tying run -- Game 1 winner Cliff Lee -- at second base. "It was definitely a huge game for us," Cook said. "It's huge to go back home with the series tied." Colorado Rockies vs. Philadelphia Phillies - Recap - October 08, 2009 - ESPN

| Re: Cook outduels Hamels as Rockies nip Phillies, tie series Phillies still undecided about Game 3 starter October 08, 2009 10:53 PM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS PHILADELPHIA • Pedro Martinez wants the ball in another big game. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel will consider giving the three-time Cy Young Award winner the start in Game 3. Martinez was the only pitcher out of the three possible starting candidates that did not pitch Thursday in a 5-4 loss to the Rockies that evened the best-of-five series at a game apiece. J.A. Happ and Joe Blanton both made cameo appearances out of the bullpen in Game 2. Their relief stints means Manuel’s decision on a Game 3 starter got a lot more complicated. Martinez wants to make it easy for him. “I guess I’m the only one standing,” he said. Phillies still undecided about Game 3 starter | game, philadelphia, phillies - Sports - Colorado Springs Gazette, CO It appears it is going to be Hammels for the Rockies starting game 3. My guess is Pedro Martinez will start for the Phillies. Tomorrow night it is suppose to snow up in Denver and be very cold. Do the Rockies have an advantage here? |
