Flyers (finally) beat the Lightning at home!

Great 3-2 win over Tamps tonight! This game had it all! Fights, goals, hard hitting, and bad blood!

WOW!! What a game! Tampa is a team I just like the Flyers to beat! They have played them twice in the playoffs, with each team taking a series, and both of them had a lot of bad blood in em!

Take that Tampa!

It was close too, wasn't it? TB was winning at one point - so what was the bad blood? spill.

Re: Flyers (finally) beat the Lightning at home!

Roy and Cote had a fight in the first period, which I would say Roy took Cote in.

Later on, they fought again, with Cote putting Roy down with about two punches!

But there is a bit more to it than that. In the first fight, they are reaching for each other, and Roy sort of shrugs out of his elbow pad as they are squaring off. Well, this time the fight starts about the same way, reaching for each others sweaters, and Cote grabs at Roy, yanking roys sweater off of that left arm. As Roy sort of casually shrugs that pad off again, Cote catches him with that first left, basically knocking him senseless.

Well, for the rest of the game, Roy is outraged. I guess he feels like he was done wrong, somehow. At one point in the 3rd, the Tampa coach has to grab him by his sweater and force him to sit down. You could see Roy Seething on the bench.

The one time I saw Roy back on the ice, he seemed to be challenging the entire bench to go at it.

After the game, Steve Coates, the former Flyer that broadcasts Flyers games from the area between the benches, gave a sanitized version of what was being said. And it seems Roy was PO'd that Cote fought him at the end of a shift.

Well, it was the end of a shift for both!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH. You can walk away, it's been done. He wanted to go, and was mad that he ended up on the ice, clutching at Cotes ankle.

The game itself was clean other than that. The usual bad calls, the bit both sides, but a pretty good game. I wish I could have caught the Lightning press conference last night.

I will do a Web Search today for a Tampa paper, to hear that side of the story.

The usual bad calls - isn't it maddening when you just have to accept that?

Sounds like the second time around, Cote got Roy's "tell" - when he's shrugging off his elbow pad, hit him fast.
Tortarella is hilarious, too - he's a "feisty" coach with sometimes too much to say so I am sure he had some things to add post game.

Lightning Lose Late Again

Here is the Tampa version. Nothing bad to say, really. Just Tortarella taking his players to task, and saying he will handle Roy.

I was just glad the Flyers beat them. Philly hadn't beaten them at home since Jan 03!

now's the time to take advantage of them - they are so far from the team they once were.
Philly sits at 8th place.

I think Philly can pick up a couple of spots. Hatcher comes back Sunday, and Lupoul will be back next week. Richards will be playing by the end of the month.

Things are looking up. As long as they take care of thier end, they will be OK.

We shall see.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing what they can do in the off season. This team is no cup contender yet, by a long shot.

But they are beginning to adopt a new identity, and I hope to see the progress in that direction!

Roy Gets Early Trip Home After Incident Vs. Flyers

Interesting article about the Cote-Roy fight the other night.

However, what kind of crappy rule is that one about showing replays? Bring on that fine. To hell with the NHL, and thier lame rules. Comcast will pay that fine, and laugh some more. Please.

don't you think it's kind of childish that they kept showing the fight, Phils?

No. I think it is childish that a player with 90 seconds of playing time for the game wanted to get up and fight the whole bench. His entire purpose in life is to fight, and the poor guy lost one and can't handle it.

Maybe they shoud have ran a Kleenex ad up there instead. Pathetic.

If it is against the rules, they Flyers should be fined. BUT, the rule is stupid. The Titan Tron is for the FANS. Should they have taken the score down as well, that might have hurt someones feelings???

Yeah - I don't think we have to worry about Roy's feelings - still, I just wonder if i as a fan would want to see it played over and over again. I'd want to get back to the hockey game.
They did send him home to tell him to cool off, which i've never really heard of.

I don't see much difference in that and showing a goal over and over. In the end, it's just a highlight. Teams are supposed to show some discipline. If it had been Cote, it would be bigger news, since he is a Flyer, and we all know how "evil" and "dirty" all the Flyers are.

But the Flyers will play on. Like I said, fine em. No problem, if they broke the rules, they should be punished for it. But I'm sure this isn't the first time an arena has done that. The Lightning are just looking for excuses why their player was a moron. I'd be looking too!
