Peter Forsberg retire?

The Associated Press is reporting that Peter Forsberg of the Flyers could be on his way out of Philly. As the AP reports, "Not even Forsberg is sure if he'll finish a second season with the Philadelphia Flyers, re-sign, or soon ask for a trade to a title contender... The former MVP might even retire. It all depends again on how Forsberg feels after his latest attempt at finding out why his right foot can't bond with his skate."

So, will he play for the Flyers again? Will he ask for a trade? Or will he hang up the skates?

Cool Re: Peter Forsberg retire?

In today's Newsday:
Quote:
If the Flyers and free agent-to-be Peter Forsberg, playing with an injured foot, agree that he should be traded by the Feb. 27 deadline, the Swedish center would have to waive his no-trade clause. Eleven teams have inquired. "Brendan Shanahan has been begging for a center all year," Brett Hull said on NBC yesterday. "If they get Forsberg, with Shanahan and Jagr, they can contend for the Stanley Cup."

According to Steve Zipay, who covers the Rangers for Newsday.
Quote:
Forsberg on hold...so far
The reports of Peter Forsberg waiving his no-trade clause today (on sportsnet.ca and other locales) were premature.

But I think he will, eventually.

No need to do it yet.

Philly can now let clubs come to them with offers and then ask the world-class, if injured, 33-year-old center if he'll waive the clause to go to a specific club.

I presume the Rangers' best chance is to offer what they believe is a fair deal, and see if Forsberg really wants to come to New York rather than elsewhere and join fellow Swedes Henrik Lundqvist and Michael Nylander as well as Shanahan and Jagr.

The Rangers have the cap room they'll need. Forsberg's $5.5 million by that point would be about $1.2 or $1.3 million.

He scored his first even strength goal since Nov 15 on Tuesday night. he says he's got his confidence back. he says he is "happy".

Cool Re: Peter Forsberg retire?

The Flyers would be nuts not to trade him. They're just awful and they might as well trade hm for young players and really rebuild.

Re: Peter Forsberg retire?

So apparently Forsberg was in discussion with the powers that be in Philly, but after this weekend, no end was reached and discussion continues.
I think he's going.

Re: Peter Forsberg retire?

Honestly? for the money you'd end up having to pay him? and then there's all the whining, about the skate - "it hurts when i skate" - you know?

You mean you won't understand what he's saying cause it'll be in Swedish?
That's hilarious.
like he's the Swedish chef from the muppets, throwing his hands around, pointing at his feet, tears. all the rest of them just looking at each other and shrugging their shoulders.
