Re: Philly to sign Olympic gold medal sprinter?

The Philadelphia Eagles may be close to signing 100-meter co-world record-holder and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Justin Gatlin to play wide receiver. I could see this working. Play him almost exclusively in 4-WR sets and have him run nothing by fly patterns. See if any DBs can keep up with Gatlin's 9.77 100-meter speed. And hey, its not like he'd be the first sprinter to make the conversion into the NFL. Remember Renaldo Nehemiah?

Won't happen...Gatlin is in great form this year...he went under 9.9 in the Prefontaine Meet...In this age where sprinters are highly paid...Gatlin commands top money on the circuit...he is not going to risk it on the gridiron...

But speaking of how sprinters in the NFL...

1) Bob Hayes...Bullet Bob the Tokyo gold medalist...

2) Jim Hines (not so well)...The Mexico Gold Medalist with a World Record 9.95...returned kicks for Miami for a few years...

3) Willie Gault and Ron Brown did well...both World Class...

4) Skeets Nehemiah and his 12.93 speed over the hurdles was decent...

5) O.J Simpson...look it up...world record (or college record) in the 4x 110 relay at USC...

6) Rocket Ismail indoor track champ at 60 meters I believe...

7) James Lofton...doesn't really count...but he use to long jump 27 feet, which is world class...

So, the transition isn't all that bad sometimes...
