Eagles sue TO for bonus money

The Philadelphia Eagles have filed suit for nearly $770,000 against their former wide receiver Terrell Owens for bonus money he has not repaid.
Owens lost in arbitration earlier this year in a ruling calling for him to repay $1.7 million in bonuses from 2004 and 2005.

This doesnt look so good for TO. Maybe he is short on cash and needs to sell more popcorn or something

If they let him go then they shouldn't be entitled to get the money back.

Oh naturally. Out of all the posts out there about a Dallas Cowboy or TO this is the one you pick up on.

I would take it that means letter of the law...cause you are hardly on the side of the spirit of the law...

You are by the book without exception...(or so it seems)...to me the book is a good guideline or starting point...and each case is weighed by its own merits.

And what is wrong with following the letter of the law ?

Now let me 'splain. Last fall in my state there was a drunken driver who went down the interstate well over the speed limit in the wrong direction. He had already been nailed 3 times for DUI and his license was suspended. He killed an 18 year old boy who was doing absolutely nothing wrong. Nothing. He is dead. The offender should have already been in jail for previous crimes but because we weighed this case on its own merits he was out driving, drunk, in someone elses car taking a life. Yup I'm all about the letter of the law. This is just one of many reasons why. Justice is not fair or equal.

Re: Eagles sue TO for bonus money

Why do they make penalties for violations and then bargain them away ???

I know I'm way off topic and I'm sorry. Obviously a very hot button issue for me.

What the heck???....

Come on man...for every one of those weird cases there is another one where someone needed to exercise common sense...

The law though the law, is often time a shoe that does not fit all feet equally well...that is why there are judges, lawyers and juries etc..and common sense is part of the equation...if we really thought the law was flawless enough to only require a book we would all be in a pickle and chaos would reign...

I am for order over chaos...but serve it up with a side order of common sense...

Allowing my previously stated event to occur is common sense ??? and please don't try to convince me that it is one of those weird cases. It happens all to often. How many criminals are free due to technicalities ? Is Vick guilty and should he be free ? If not why not?

Javert, I am saying simple that in all cases there should be an ounce or two of common sense...and that the law as good as we try to make it, is not black and white...but most often gray......There is a "spirit" portion to the law that you well wish wasn't there...yet it is...if everything hinged on the letter of the law...there would be chaos...just as much as if there was no law.
