According to Yahoo! Sports, "Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Mike Patterson likely will be subject to discipline by the NFL after being arrested and charged with marijuana possession last Saturday in South Jersey the Philadelphia Inquirer reported." He could wind up being suspended for four games as a result. Your thoughts?

When it is against the rules, and know that you could be tested, it is not only illegal, and against NFL policy, but just plain stupid.

It is not the NFL's job to decide the law, just to "help" the players stay within the laws.

I guess as a practical matter, I don't see it as being any worse, but the law says different. And that is all that matters in this case.

And no, I don't partake either, at least not in the last 20 years!

I like being employed.

And it's hard to feel sorry for them. First offense at work, they send you to rehab. Second offense, out the door. And that is lenient compared to most places.

You have to understand that for the NFL whether its pot or alcohol, the issue is what's legal. Pot is illegal. So is smashing someone's head when under the influence of alcohol. We have had lots of players getting into trouble because of alcohol. Whether or not we agree with the governments or anyone else's stand on the issue, the main thing here is whether or not its legal.
Breaking the law is breaking the law, and if the teams and NFL dont make a stand, we would end up with teams like the Bengals have been dealing with, a bunch of hoodlums.

Yep, four games is bogus. It should be a season for the first offense, and a lifetime ban for the second.

All you have to do is put the team, and your own financial future, first for about 8-12 years, and then smoke all the weed you want.

Look what Ricky Williams has thrown away. I would give about anything to have the talent these guys have. I could do away with any and all vices for a decade or so, then have about 40 more years of life to do things I never even dreamed of.

If these players can't be focused enough to do that, there is someone standing right behind them on the depth chart that will.
