Cool Re: Bloom soars with Eagles

Gary Wichard is the agent for the Philadelphia Eagles' first-round draft choice, Brodrick Bunkley, but most of the questions he gets concern a fifth-round pick.

"Doesn't anybody from Philadelphia — or anywhere else — want to talk about the first-round pick?" Wichard asked in mock anger.

Not when the fifth-rounder is fresh off the Olympic slopes, has movie-star looks, has been a marketer's dream and has the ability to go coast-to-coast on a punt return.

Never mind that Jeremy Bloom hasn't played competitive football since the 2003 season at the University of Colorado. Or that he was not even the first receiver drafted by the Eagles this year. (Michigan receiver Jason Avant went in the fourth round).

Bloom, the 24-year-old two-time Olympic skier who finished sixth in the men's moguls at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy, is a hot commodity.

"It's like representing a rock star," Wichard said.

Looks like the Olympian has a golden boy image...I like the kid...he was ripped off by the NCAA...I am hopnig he makes it.

Re: Bloom soars with Eagles

I am not buying into this. the fact he hasn't played football in two years isn't what concerns me. Its the fact he was a fifth round pick who everyone recognizes so he receieves an unwarranted amount of attention. What did he ever accomplished on the football field in Boulder? Why have I never heard what his forty time is? More importantly, who was the last decent Colorado alum to play in The NFL?

I believe he runs in the 4.4 to 4.5 range...and I would say maybe Michael Westbrook?...though he was in the good but not great category...

How about Ted Johnson? I'd say he was pretty darn good.
