Re: Should Andy Reid be fired?

I'm not sure on the drug laws in Philly but I'm sure Andy Reid could be held accountable if the drug/guns were being sold out of the home or something like that.

But he shouldn't be fired, he didn't do anything illegal from what I read. Sure it sounds like a mess of a homelife but there's no reason to fire the guy. Should he resign? Perhaps, but I don't know all the details of what's going on there.

Re: Should Andy Reid be fired?

I really don't think he should be fired, but I do think the NFL should at least suspend him.

Re: Should Andy Reid be fired?

The thing that bothers me is that one of his kids got hooked on a prescription pain killer in high school. Andy's insurance pay for that?????
It could very well be as azrael says, he didnt know what was going on. Addicts are sneaky. I have had some experience with it myself.
But then again, Andy could be just pretending its not there, at the least, an enabler.
What's more important here Andy??????? Football? Your kids???
He shouldnt be fired because we dont have enough info. But maybe suspension until he gets his house in order. Goodell is cracking down on everyone else.
I cant make a judgment because I havent walked in Andy's shoes.

Repercussions, yes - but what if your kid got caught with pot in the house, does that mean you should lose your job? No way.

Re: Should Andy Reid be fired?

Lefty, if Isiah Thomas can keep his job, after a jury found him guilty of what he himself did, then Andy Reid can keep his for what his sons did. Reid is probably one of those coaches that is totally out of touch with the real world and had no idea of what was going on right under his nose. Now if you want to fire him for having the most vanilla offense ever, that's another story. Watching McNabb throw his 4 yard passes all over the place is totally unbearable.

Good point. But Isiah getting to keep his job is a whole 'nother issue - no way he should still be employed after that mess.

Re: Should Andy Reid be fired?

here we have a situation where the good guy suffers more than the bad guy(s).

legally, Reid is responsible for drugs found in his home. morally Reid is responsible for not loving his family enough.

If he knew his adult sons were involved with drugs and he took no action to protect the rest of his family, he's guilty of sacrificing their safety and his personal honor for the ones that went astray. you cannot stop loving your child, but you have to know when to cut them loose for the good of the rest of the family. you cannot allow them to threaten the rest of the family. a tough thing to do, but necessary none the less.

my baby brother was a drug addict and he ruined my parents lives and property for over 25 years because of it - the only good that came of it was my son and daughter, as well as my nieces and nephews, saw what was happening and have very strong anti-drug feelings. in the end, drugs killed my brother, but my mother continued to protect him to the end even though she knew he was lost.

Reid may proclaim his innocence, that he did not know they had drugs in his house, but deep down he knows that's a lie .. he knew even if he never saw them.

I have to side with Lefty on this one. the league needs to treat Reid the same way they would a player who's house was found to have illegal drugs in it: suspension seems appropriate.

Re: Should Andy Reid be fired?

Isiah wasn't found 'guilty'...it was a civil case. He was found liable (along with Madison Square Garden) for the accuser's claims of sexual harrasment.

This is something that I'm sure is being dealt with in-house (Eagles-wise). The owner wouldn't keep Reid around if he wasn't focused and able to do his job.

that should depend on your employer and their stand on such things. I worked for a company that, in the '70's, fired people for wearing their ID badge into a bar.

Reid is a public figure, unlike those employees, and is held to a higher standard. Unlike those employees, the NFL determines whether a player or coach can work in their league, not the team owner.

reminds me of the Bud delivery driver fired for drinking Miller in a bar with his uniform still on
