Brian Westbrook Is Playing for Free in 2007

There are a couple of issues here: First, the Eagles accidentally overpaid running back Brian Westbrook by $3 million last season. The club is now deducting the mistake from Westbrook's 2007 base salary, which, incidentally, is $3 million.

Second, Westbrook isn't happy about playing the year for free. Surprising, I know. (Actually, the pro-rated part of his bonus money is being paid out this season, and there's always the extra three-million clams he received in '06.)
"It would be the same thing as if you guys went out and wrote papers or whatever, and didn't get a paycheck," Westbrook said. "You would be disappointed. It's a situation that my agent and I are trying to get resolved. It hasn't gotten resolved yet. By this time, I thought it would have been resolved."

Wow, that's rough. How can a franchise not realize they overpaid one year? Then take it out on the player?

If this was baseball, the MLBPA would be all over them.

I wonder if he realized he was being overpaid last year.
At any rate, it sucks. He sure isnt going to be over motivated this year.

If you get overpaid at work, you know it. Then they turn around and deduct it later. This is no different.

Don't you think he knew he was being overpaid??

Please. Anyone who works knows that you don't get free money. If my check is over, I have to report it. It has happened once before. And I didn't report it. The next check they deducted the extra amount. That is just how it is.

Sorry Brian, you should have opened your mouth.

I agree. I know down to the penny what I will get on each check. |Did he think somebody was just going to miss $3 million and not care? If he has people take care of that for him, they should be fired, but he still has to pay it back.
