Eagles Sign Kevin Kolb to 4-Year Deal

In news that surprised no one, Kevin Kolb became the final Eagles draft pick to sign, agreeing to a four-year deal today that ProFootballTalk.com is reporting as being worth $2.62 million, 11-percent more than the player drafted in the same slot last year (Patriots WR Chad Jackson) received. Despite being the last draftee to join the Eagles’ fold, Kolb has signed ahead of many second-rounders, which ESPN’s John Clayton says (Insider account required) may be a result of the stalemate between teams and agents about so-called salary escalators in the fourth year of contracts. Needless to say, agents want ‘em and teams don’t. I haven’t found a breakdown of Kolb’s deal to know if it contains one of these escalators but considering Kolb could be the Eagles’ starting QB by his fourth season, his agent better have been trying hard to get one into the deal.
