Re: Philadelphia Eagles Draft Picks

Bit of a gamble for Philly with big possible payoff. I think Kolb, Abiamiri and Hunt all have big-time potential.

Terrible draft.. just terrible. And they even got a PSU guy for me. Hunt is OK but I don't think he will be anything great as a pro. As far as they rest... Kolb was just such a reach. 2nd RD??? He would have been there in the 4th RD. Overall I am just disappointed.

Re: Philadelphia Eagles Draft Picks

I am interested to see how Hunt will do...Penn State runners seem to only come in two flavors...great...LJ, Franco Harris, Mitchell, or awful Carter, Enis, Blair etc...

How does this kid project? I thought he lacked killer speed.

Don't know if I would call Lydell Mitchell great. And to think Franco Harris was the blocking back in that backfield. Hunt does not have that "breakaway" speed like Adrian Peterson does. He is the type of a guy who goes up the gut, with the ability to take a hit and get free to the outside. He can replace Buckholder in my book. Not the best catcher out of the backfield but he does not have stone hands either. He is a project that will take a year or two but the guy is dependable.

Re: Philadelphia Eagles Draft Picks

I guess my main complaint with with the Eagles draft (much like it is every year), is how they can continue to neglect the wide receiver position. As of now, Billy McMullen and Reggie Brown are the starting two, these guys are serviceable at best and I would hardly consider them playmakers. In short, we're back where we were pre-Terrell Owens. The only worse receiving core in the league is Tennessee's.

Not only do they do McNabb this disservice in denying him respectable targets, they draft his replacement in the 2nd round. They already have two backups in Holcomb and Feely, now a fourth quarterback? That is the first sign that Philly is showing him the door. For all the flak he's taken vs. all of his individual and team achievements, I cannot recall an organization or a city being less appreciative of a hall of fame career.

As far as this draft is concerned relative to the upcoming season... they had a legitimate shot at the superbowl beforehand, the manner in which they drafted indicates to me that they are content to simply make the playoffs but not compete for a title. Which is insane.

I don't have a problem with them getting another QB. With all the injuries McNabb has been having the last few years, they need to make sure they get somebody else that can lead the team. No offense to Holcomb or Feely, but they are not the answer.

Mitchell was a darn good if not great back in the NFL ...he managed 3 straight seasons of +1000 yards (when there was a 14 game schedule) and lead the league in receiving twice...he did not have the luxuary to play on the Steelers like Franco...or run behind the line that LJ has...totally underrated back in my book...

Understandable, but in a year when they could make a superbowl push, after just releasing Donte Stallworth and having no viable replacement, they trade up to draft a quarterback in the second round that (as all signs indicate) would have been there in the third. I guess my confusion derives from the timing, both of the pick and the round they chose to do it in.

A QB for the future is fine, but given where the franchise is at and what issues are most pressing, Dwayne Jarrett would have been much better.

I agree.. that why this draft leaves me shaking my head. Kolb is not the answer for the future, IMO. If the guy turns out to be the next Tom Brady then I will happily eat crow, but I just don't see it. With McNabb's history of injury we do need to be thinking of who takes over... and you are right Holcomb and Feeley are not it. So this pick almost seems like a waste. We could have used a WR, we could have used a LB, we could have used another DB. Instead we got nothing.
