Andy Reid leave of absence

ESPN 2's Cold Pizza is reporting that Eagles coach Andy Reid is taking a leave of absence from the team to deal with familiy matters. I know there's been some problems with his family. Specifically, it probably has to do with his son Garrett Reid, who admitted to police that he was on heroin when he caused a traffic accident last week that left another motorist injured earlier this month. Your reactions?

Re: Andy Reid leave of absence

Family is definitely more important than football. He should take care of his son first. The reason he has assistants is so he doesn't have to do everything. Take some time off and then get ready for the draft.

Cool Re: Andy Reid leave of absence

Bleeding Green Nation thinks that Reid will definitely get behind the 8 ball regarding the draft:
Quote:
Up until last year Tom Heckert was the Eagles' Vice President of payer personell and more than one team wanted to make him their GM. The Eagles gave him the bump up to GM, but the fact remains that Andy Reid has the final say on all personell moves.

To take some time off now would be putting yourself behind the 8 ball in terms of preparing for the draft. Even if he didn't take a significant leave of absence, you have to imagine he'll miss some things in order to deal with his family. At the very least, he'd have to be a bit distracted.

This is where where Tom Heckert makes his money. Andy showed when he gave up the playcalling to Marty Morningwheg that he is starting to trust the people he has around him to take pressure off himself. That's something Andy Reid has not always been great at. When he started here, and at various times during his tenure we've heard stories about Andy being a bit of a control freak. I'm not saying it was a bad thing, frankly this team needed that. However, we've really seen Andy soften up on that. He's now letting his assistants talk to the media(there was a time they weren't allowed), he's letting someone else call the plays(which is something he hadn't done in 7 years)ect... I really believe this is the year he lets Tom Heckert do his thing. This year's draft, for better or worse, I think will be known as Heckert's draft.

Eagles' Reid takes month's leave
Cincinnati Post, OH - 25 minutes ago
PHILADELPHIA - Andy Reid is facing a crisis far tougher than a quarterback controversy or a disruptive player.

The Philadelphia Eagles coach will leave the team for a month to deal with developments that have rocked his family the past two weeks - one son tested positive for heroin, another was arraigned on drug and weapons charges.

The team said the leave will last until mid-March.

"He's not going to come into the office. His priorities will be his family for that period of time, but he will be available to have a couple of calls with us and collaborate and if he needed to be here for a visit of a free agent," Eagles president Joe Banner said Monday. "He will retain final say over whatever we do."

Post Eagles Coach's Son Expected to Surrender

Up to the minute news about the Philadelphia Eagles from GoTeamsGo. We'll find the latest Philadelphia Eagles news so you can chat about here.

Eagles Coach's Son Expected to Surrender
Rapid City Journal, SD - 2 hours ago
PHILADELPHIA - A son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid was expected to surrender to police in Plymouth Township on charges of assault, drug possession and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

Garrett Reid, 23, of Villanova, was charged Thursday with 14 misdemeanor offenses stemming from an auto accident in suburban Philadelphia on Jan. 30. The charges came just days after Andy Reid took a leave of absence from the team to deal with family matters.

Authorities said a second son, 21-year-old Britt Reid, would waive a preliminary hearing set for Friday over an alleged road rage encounter that same day in which he allegedly pointed a gun at another motorist.
