Jon Runyan

Word is that the Eagles' OT is upset that the team has not contacted him about a new contract. "A lot of people need a right tackle," he told the Delaware County Daily Times. "And, by the looks of it, the Eagles are going to need one. I don't know what they're going to do. I haven't heard from them." Runyan has started every game at RT for Philly during the past 6 years. Think they'd honesty let him go free agent? If so, how do they replace him?

Re: Jon Runyan

Looks like the Eagles were able to get a new deal done with Runyan after all. Good news, eh, Philly fans?

Re: Jon Runyan

Lefty,

This is extremely good news for the Eagles. I was writing up the Runyan story and looked up his stats. This dude has some major longevity going on.

Check this out:

Runyan has started 144 games consecutively, the fourth highest total among active players.

Runyan has started sixteen consecutive playoff game, numero uno in that category.

In total, Runyan has racked up 106 starts as an Eagle, or every single game since he was acquired in 2000.

And perhaps most importantly, Runyan’s deal in 2000 brought him $30.5 mil over six years, making it one of the biggest deals ever for an offensive lineman at that time.

Who knew? I don't know how much life McNabb's got in his legs, but that nice Philly line of Runyan and Tra Thomas are contracted through 2008 and might just extend the QB's career a bit.

Cheers!

Re: Jon Runyan

Fascinating stuff, Os! I was so sure for a while there that the team was going to mess it up and lose Runyan, but it all worked out for them in the end. You've got to take care of your o-line, people!
